CCU loses to Cuban National Team

Badou Diagne scored 14 points and Shivaughn Wiggins and Elijah Wilson scored 12 each, but the Coastal Carolina basketball team lost 76-68 to the Cuban National Team at the Sports City complex.

Jaylen Shaw added 11 for CCU.

Prior to the game, the teams continued the longstanding international tradition of exchanging gifts. Coastal presented the hosts with polos and hats featuring the Chanticleer logo along with 40 new basketball. The Cubans gave CCU Cuban flag lapel pins.

The Chants take on the Cuban National Team again Sunday at 4:30 p.m.

CCU alumnus Hessler called up by Diamondbacks

Coastal Carolina alumnus Keith Hessler, who played for the Chants from 2009-2011, was promoted by the Arizona Diamondbacks on Saturday.

Hessler, a left-handed pitcher, has compiled a 4-2 record with a 1.68 ERA in 47 relief appearances in the Diamondbacks’ farm system this season.

In five seasons of professional baseball, Hessler has pitched in 180 games, including 35 starts, with a 4.07 ERA and recorded 407 strikeouts in 386 2/3 innings.
