CCU sacks football spokesperson before the big game. Here’s what we know
Coastal Carolina’s Athletic Department is sacking one of its top media relations officials.
The announcement comes a day before CCU’s football game against Appalachian State on Thursday, Nov. 7, 2024.
CCU Associate Athletics Director for Media Relations Rixon Lane announced via X, formerly known as Twitter, that the athletic department was letting him go. His last game working for Coastal will be the Mountaineer game.
“Working at CCU has been a dream come true,” Lane wrote in a post. “I have thoroughly enjoyed every moment I’ve spent as a Chanticleer.”
Lane declined to comment further when reached for comment. Lane joined the CCU Athletic Department in the fall of 2023 after his predecessor, Kevin Davis, left Coastal Carolina to become Senior Associate Commissioner/Strategic Communications for the ACC.
When reached for comment via phone Nov. 6, 2024, Coastal Carolina Assistant Director for Media Relations Darrell Orand said, “We’re not going to comment. No more questions.”
Lane is not the only recent major name in Coastal Carolina athletics let go in recent weeks. Football Offensive Coordinator Travis Trickett was fired Monday, Oct. 21, 2024, following CCU’s loss to the University of Louisiana Lafayette Ragin’ Cajuns.
