Coastal Carolina alumna Amber Campell of the United States continued her strong season Tuesday, earning a runner-up finish in the hammer throw during the track and field portion of the Pan American Games in Toronto.
The five-time All-American’s toss of 233 feet, 8 inches was just short of winner Rosa Rodriguez of Venezuela (234-11).
“It was a good finish for her as she gets ready for the World Championships,” Coastal Carolina track and field coach Jeff Jacobs said.
Current Chanticleer Jessica Gelibert of Haiti qualified for the finals in the 400-meter hurdles, posting a time of 57.58, the sixth-best time in heat competition. The top eight qualified for Wednesday’s finals, scheduled for 7:15 p.m. ET.
It was her first time competing in seven weeks, Jacobs said.
“We didn’t know how this would go,” he said. “But she’s been working really hard and hopefully she’ll do well in the final.”
