Weather at home could have inclement effects on the Coastal Carolina football team’s while they’re on the road.

CCU is set to play its first game of the season against UCLA Saturday, Sep. 2 in Pasadena Calif. The game will be taking place in the aftermath of Hurricane Idalia, which is scheduled to hit the Grand Strand region sometime Wednesday or Thursday.

The university is monitoring the situation, but the game is still scheduled to take place, said Coastal Carolina University Director of Communication Jerry Rashid.

Rashid added the team will fly to California Friday on a chartered flight, and the university will wait and see what impact Hurricane Idalia has on CCU’s campus.

Hurricanes have previously impacted CCU’s football team. In 2018, the Chants had to drive to Jacksonville, Fla. to stay and practice, while Hurricane Florence rocked the Grand Strand.

Past hurricanes have also led to games being rescheduled. Florida State’s 2017 game against Louisiana Monroe had to be rescheduled due to Hurricane Irma.

CCU is set to make $1.1 million for its game against the UCLA Bruins.

Aside from being the first game of the season, it will also be new Head Coach Tim Beck’s first game leading the Chants.
