Coastal Carolina is projected to have a down year under new management.
The Sun Belt Conference released its coaches poll Monday, July 24 at 1 p.m. The anonymous poll projected CCU to finish third in the Sun Belt Conference’s East Division.
The result is a downgrade for the Chants. Last season CCU was projected to finish second in the East Division behind rival school Appalachian State. But App State imploded in 2022, finishing 3-5 and losing 35-28 to Coastal Carolina at home. CCU finished the season 9-4 and lost in the Birmingham Bowl to East Carolina University.
The 2023 season marks the first year Tim Beck will lead CCU as head coach. The former NC State Offensive Coordinator was named head coach in December 2022, after previous head coach Jamey Chadwell left Coastal before the end of the season to take a job at Liberty University.
This season will also be the last for four-year starter Grayson McCall. The super senior chose to stay in Conway after exiting the transfer portal in January 2023.
