Coastal sets 2020 football schedule. Home game against Power 5 foe a program first
Coastal Carolina’s 2020 football schedule was announced Friday. The Chanticleers will play two Power 5 teams in the same season — South Carolina and Kansas — for the first time in program history.
The 2020 slate also includes six home games, with Kansas being the first-ever Power 5 opponent to visit Brooks Stadium. The Chanticleers will also play a nationally televised Thursday night game on ESPNU against Georgia State in Atlanta.
Coastal opens the season Sept. 5 in Columbia against the USC Gamecocks and travels to Eastern Michigan the following weekend. The meeting with the Gamecocks is the third all-time and the second in the last three years.
The first home game isn’t until Sept. 19 against Duquesne. That begins a three-game home stretch to include the Kansas Jayhawks coming to Conway on Sept. 26. The Chanticleers defeated Kansas 12-7 on the road in 2019 for the program’s first victory over a team from a Power 5 conference in its 17-year history.
Kickoff times will be released at a later date. Special events such as homecoming and family weekend will also be announced later.
