Thursday’s area sports briefs

Anthony Lopez singled in the game-winning run in the bottom of the ninth inning as Campbell rallied from a run down in the final frame to beat Coastal Carolina 10-9 on Thursday night.

Austin Beard drove in the game-tying run on a bunt in the ninth.

Connor Owings, Zach Remillard and Casey Schroeder drove in two runs each for Coastal.

Men’s golf

▪  Coastal Carolina’s Andrew Dorn shot a 2-under 70 to sit in a tie for 13th place and Ben Wheeler fired a 2-over 74 to sit in a tie for 43rd at the NCAA East Regional.

Both are playing the tournament as individuals.

Track and field

▪  Coastal Carolina’s Letitia Saayman set a meet record in winning the 10,000 meters in 34:54.43 on Day 1 of the Big South Outdoor Championships.

Teka Simpson also won an event, taking the long jump in 19-6 1/4.

Other CCU women with top-10s were: Kyla van Graan (10,000m, third, 36:49.94); Kelila Naules (long jump, third, 18-8); Amirah Al-Bayyinah (long jump, eighth, 18-3 3/4); Chloe White (javelin, second, school-record 154-11); Tiffani Khun (javelin, sixth, 132-1); Marissa Cain (javelin, seventh, 120-5); and Cari Pallini (discus, fourth, 138-11).

CCU men with top-10s included: Raheem Frederick (long jump, second, 23-6 3/4); Mark Stembridge (long jump sixth, 23-1 3/4); Marquez Moore (long jump, seventh, 22-9); Rob Castellani (javelin, fourth, 192-9); Nick Seabright (javelin, seventh, 174-6); Brinson Corn (pole vault, sixth, 14-5 1/2); and Evan Niciphor (10,000m, ninth, 32:01.32).

All top-three finishers earn all-conference honors.

▪ Women’s team scores: Liberty 58, Coastal Carolina 51, High Point 17, UNC Asheville 12, Charleson Southern 6, Wiunthrop 5, Gardner-Webb 4, Radford 3.

▪ Men’s team scores: Liberty 81, Campbell 31, Coastal Carolina 23, High Point 13, Winthrop 6, UNC Asheville 1.

High school boys tennis

▪ (At) Bishop England 4, Waccamaw 3 | The Warriors fell to the Bishops in the Lower State finals.
