Sunday’s area sports briefs

Zach Remillard went 3-for-4 with four RBIs and Shane Sawczak struck out a career-high seven batters as the Coastal Carolina baseball team defeated Presbyterian 9-2 in Game 2 on Sunday to sweep a doubleheader that capped a three-game series.

Tyler Chadwick homered and drove in three runs and Connor Owings plated three in a 10-7 win to begin the doubleheader.

Sawczak (2-3) allowed four hits in five shutout innings to pick up the win in the second game. Austin Kerr (8-0) allowed two runs (one earned) on six hits in six innings to get the win in the opener.

College baseball

▪ (At) Tennesee 10, South Carolina 4 | Parker Wormsley drove in three runs and A.J. Simcox and Andrew Lee drove in two each as the Volunteers rallied back to beat the Gamecocks and claim the series.

Elliott Caldwell tripled and drove in three for USC (26-19, 9-12 SEC).

▪ (At) Georgia Tech 5, Clemson 4 (10) | Ryan Peurifoy drove in the game-winner on a single with two outs in the 10 inning to lift the Yellow Jackets.

Steven Duggar had three hits and Weston Wilson drove in two for the Tigers (23-21, 12-11 ACC).

CCU softball

▪ Presbyterian 4, (at) Coastal Carolina 2 | Despite a career-high five stolen bases by Bri Chiusano, the Chants dropped their regular-season finale.

Coastal’s Kory Hayden went 1-for-3 to reach base for the 32nd straight game and set a program record for career walks with her 115th.

Erin Ruff had three hits and drove in two nad Kersten Legacki and Erin Taylor drove in one each for the Blue Hose.
