Coastal Carolina track and field concludes Penn Relays with five medals
The Chanticleers once again proved to be up to the challenge at the Penn Relays on Saturday.
Coastal Carolina earned a pair of medals Saturday – Reggie Nelson took fourth in the high jump (6 feet 11 1/2 inches) and the women’s 1,600-meter relay team (Jessica Gelibert, Christal Green, Teka Simpson and Camille Hurley) placed fourth (3:37.85) – to push the total to five for the three-day meet.
“Five medals is pretty outstanding,” CCU coach Jeff Jacobs said. “It was one of our best showings in recent memory. We went out there and competed with some of the best teams in the country.”
On Thursday, Gelibert finished second in the 400-meter hurdles and Joseph Keitt placed fifth in the 3,000-meter steeplechase. On Friday, the women’s shuttle hurdle relay team – Hurley, Olivia Coopwood, Christina Davis and Gelibert – placed fourth.
“I’m really proud of our results at this meet,” Jacobs said.
