Matt Hazel’s on again, off again season is back on.
The former Coastal Carolina wide receiver was signed this week by the Cleveland Browns off the Indianapolis Colts practice squad and is eligible to be active for Sunday’s game against the Baltimore Ravens, though he is nursing a hamstring injury.
Hazel has been limited at practice on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday due to the injury, according to the injury report the Browns submitted to the NFL, and his status is listed as “questionable” for Sunday’s game.
Hazel, a 25-year-old from North Augusta who is CCU’s all-time leader in career receptions with 183, has taken the spot of receiver Bryce Treggs, who was waived Wednesday in a corresponding move. The Browns also waived receiver Kenny Britt last week.

It’s unlikely the Browns would have added Hazel to the 53-man roster if his injury was a serious concern, so if he isn’t active for the game it will likely be his low standing on the depth chart and lack of familiarity with the playbook that will keep him from being in uniform.
Hazel has bounced back and forth from the Colts’ active roster and practice squad for much of the season, in addition to being released. Hazel has one reception for 1 yard in three games with the Colts this season.
He has appeared in eight career NFL games, with one start, in his time with Indianapolis (2017), Washington (2016), Buffalo (2016) and Miami (2014-15), which drafted him in the sixth round of the 2014 NFL Draft.
