Takeaways from Coastal Carolina’s win over Monmouth
The big picture
What it means
The Chanticleers (7-2) opened their final four-game home stretch with a 38-17 come-from-behind win against Monmouth on Saturday, their fourth straight victory over the Hawks to move to 4-0 in the series.
After getting behind 17-3 in the first quarter, Coastal Carolina scored the game’s final 35 points to close out Monmouth, with the help of a pair of 100-yard rushing performance from Kenny Daniels (133 yards) and freshman backup quarterback Ryan Lee (121 yards, 2 TDs).
Lee and redshirt freshman Austin Bradley split time under center after junior starter Tyler Keane exited the contest in the first quarter and finished the game on crutches.
Bradley ran for a score and threw a touchdown pass as he finished with 32 passing yards.
The Chants defense also shined once again, holding the Hawks to just 63 yards of offense in the second half and picking off three passes.
Looking ahead
On Saturday, the Chants host Bryant at 2 p.m., and Coastal Carolina will honor all of its Hall of Fame members in a ceremony during the game.
Although the team is dealing with several injuries, Bradley is confident that the team will continue to roll no matter who is on the field.
“Like I said before, it doesn’t matter who is in there, we can all get the job done,” Bradley said.

Game balls
Quarterback Ryan Lee: The freshman split time with redshirt freshman Austin Bradley after Keane left the game and put up 121 rushing yards on six carries and had two scores, and also was 1-of-1 passing for 17 yards.
Running back Kenny Daniels: The senior – in his third straight start after star halfback De’Angelo Henderson went down with a shoulder injury – impressed with 133 yards on 13 carries for his second straight 100-plus yard performance.
Quarterback Austin Bradley: The redshirt freshman was 3-of-7 passing for 32 yards and a touchdown, and also ran for 26 yards on three carries.
Safety C.J. Thompson: The senior had his third interception in two games Saturday after picking up two last week.
