South Carolina freshman quarterback Brandon McIlwain will wear a football number that’s familiar to South Carolina fans.

McIlwain will wear No. 11, he revealed Tuesday night via Twitter. That number was most recently worn by Pharoh Cooper. The late receiver Kenny McKinley and quarterback Allen Mitchell also wore No. 11.

He wore No. 12 for Council Rock North High in Newtown, Pa.

McIlwain, a two-sport star, wears No. 44 in baseball. McIlwain is “full-time football” and will be expected to attend every spring football practice when it starts in March, South Carolina football coach Will Muschamp said last week.

The photo McIlwain shared on Twitter is a T-shirt version of his football jersey. The E.T.D. on the shirt stands for “Effort. Toughness. Discipline.”
