Clemson’s Dabo Swinney nets two top coaching awards

Clemson coach Dabo Swinney was named the Walter Camp 2015 Coach of the Year after leading the Tigers to a No. 1 ranking and an undefeated regular season.

Swinney is the first Clemson coach to receive the honor. With Swinney at the helm, the Tigers recorded wins against three Top 10 teams (Notre Dame, Florida State and North Carolina) in 2015, and posted nine straight games with at least 500 yards of total offense.

Swinney was also presented with the Home Depot College Coach of the Year Award during the College Football Awards Show Thursday night in Atlanta.

He admitted being honored was a special moment, but he didn’t want to take credit for the Tigers’ magical season.

“It means we’ve got a great team, that’s what it means, and a great staff. Football to me is the ultimate team sport, and any individual award is a reflection of a great team,” he said. “It’s really that simple. And a group of guys that buy into the things that you’re asking them to do. It’s special. I’m really humbled by that and appreciative of Home Depot and all of the people out there who want to recognize our team and the success we’ve had this year.”

Clemson will face No. 4 Oklahoma in a College Football Playoff Semifinal in Miami, Fla. on Dec. 31 at 4 p.m.
