Four-star North Carolina defensive lineman commits to South Carolina
Ahead of one of its biggest recruiting weekends of the year, South Carolina is already hot on the recruiting trail.
Two days after landed a pledge from OL Will Edicott, the Gamecocks earned a commitment from four-star DL John Archer.
A 6-foot-4, 315-pound native of Fayetteville, North Carolina, Archer is ranked as the 130th-best prospect in America, the No. 16 DL in the nation and the No. 6 player in North Carolina, per the 247 Composite Rankings.
Archer becomes the fourth member of South Carolina’s 2027 recruiting class, joining Endicott, four-star safety Jernard Albright and three-star quarterback Jerry Meyer III.
Playing at Seventy-First High last year, Archer racked up 44 tackles and 17 tackles for loss.
Before committing to South Carolina on Wednesday, Archer had official visits set up for Auburn (May 29), Florida (June 4) and USC (June 19).
But even coming out of his spring unofficial visit to Columbia, Archer said South Carolina was his top school.
“It felt like I was already on the team,” Archer told The Big Spur this week. “The players were talking to me and interacting with me. All the coaches were cool. I have a good relationship with everybody at South Carolina.”
