South Carolina freshman wide receiver hitting transfer portal, report says
South Carolina freshman wide receiver Brian Rowe Jr. is expected to transfer.
Rowe’s agent, Bryan Miller, told CBS Sports’ Matt Zenitz that the former four-star prospect will enter the transfer portal when it opens on January 2.
The freshman emerged as one of the Gamecocks’ top wide receivers in 2024, catching 19 passes for 149 yards and a touchdown.
Rowe, however, was suspended along with two other players for the Oklahoma game for “a violation of team standards,” head coach Shane Beamer said after the game. Along with that, Rowe hardly touched the field in the season finale against Clemson.
Rowe was part of highly-touted receiving group from the Gamecocks’ Class of 2025 recruiting class, which included Donovan Murph, Lex Cyrus, Jordon Gidron, Malik Clark and Jayden Sellers. Murph, Sellers and Rowe saw the most playing time from the group.
Rowe is now the sixth scholarship player from South Carolina to announce their intention to hit the portal, joining TE Michael Smith, DL Zavion Hardy, LB Jaron Willis, OL Nick Sharpe and OL Trovon Baugh.
