South Carolina will first demolish these sections of Williams-Brice ahead of renovations
Renovations to Williams-Brice Stadium are on the way. Before South Carolina can bring its home stadium a new look, it must get rid of the old.
USC announced Friday that construction for phase one of the “Williams-Brice Stadium Reimagination Project” has begun. Demolition work is taking place on the east side’s ground level, the southwest ramp and the Floyd Building. All demolition work is set to be finished by Jan. 5.
Phase one of the project focuses on the renovation of the general concourse areas and the student section. The updates are expected to be finished by the start of the 2026 football season.
“This is an exciting moment for Gamecock Nation,” USC Athletic Director Jeremiah Donati said in a news release. “Breaking ground on this project signals the beginning of a new era for Williams-Brice Stadium and reflects our commitment to delivering an enhanced experience for our fans and student-athletes.”
The Floyd Building is the structure just behind the student section, which was built in 1994 and used as offices for the football coaches until the Gamecocks built a new football complex. The videoboard structure is not connected to the Floyd Building and won’t be affected by the changes.
The expectation is that South Carolina will create an air-conditioned, club-like space for Gamecocks students behind the student section.
USC’s announcement Friday suggests that any renovations beyond the student section and concourses will take place after the 2026 season.
The renovation work will eventually include two new video boards on the south end of the stadium, 24 new suites and a loading dock to allow for major concerts and events to be held at the stadium.
After total renovations are complete, WIlliams-Brice Stadium’s capacity will be reduced by approximately 4,100 seats. USC’s planned renovations for this summer will not cut capacity or require seat relocation for the 2026 season.
