Shirtless man tackled for running across field at Coastal Carolina football game
Fans were in high spirits as Coastal Carolina’s football team secured a win Saturday over Georgia State at home in Conway — such high spirits that one fan ran across the field shirtless during the game.
Video circulated online following the game showing a young man in teal shorts sprinting shirtless across the field, pumping his arms in the air. He was quickly tackled to the turf by two Coastal Carolina staff members in teal shirts.
Fans cheered as the man ran across the field, and exclaimed as he was tackled. Some fans could be heard making jokes about the tackle, such as yelling “first down!”
Nearly 19,000 people were in attendance at the game, according to the Coastal Carolina sports website.
Several police officers then approached the man, and appeared to put him in handcuffs before escorting him off the field.
The Sun News has requested reports from the Coastal Carolina Police Department regarding the incident.
Representatives for Coastal Carolina University and its athletics department did not immediately respond to requests for comment on Sunday morning.
