South Carolina starter ruled out for Saturday’s game against Furman

Nick Emmanwori will not play Saturday against Furman, coach Shane Beamer announced Thursday on his weekly Carolina Calls radio show.

Emmanwori left the game last Saturday against UNC on the defense’s very first play with a hamstring injury. He was eventually ruled out in the second quarter.

Several Gamecocks left the game in Charlotte, which South Carolina lost 31-17, due to injuries. These include linebacker Mo Kaba, starting offensive lineman Cason Henry, top receiver Antwane Wells and receiver Ahmarean Brown.

Freshman offensive lineman Markee Anderson did not travel with the team after suffering a setback last week, Beamer said Sunday. Defensive end Jatius Geer and linebacker Bam Martin-Scott also didn’t travel to Charlotte.

In addition to Emmanwori being out Saturday, Beamer said Thursday that Anderson, Geer, Henry and defensive back David Spaulding would also not play against Furman. Kaba has been ruled out for the season (left knee).

Martin-Scott should play, Beamer said Tuesday. Brown (ribs) and Wells (lower body), Beamer said Thursday, practiced all week and should be set for Saturday.
