Destanni Henderson is back on a WNBA roster, at least for now.

The Los Angeles Sparks announced Friday that they had signed the former South Carolina standout to an emergency hardship contract. Henderson joins former Gamecock Zia Cooke on the Sparks’ roster.

“We love to see it!” the USC women’s basketball Twitter page posted in response to the Henderson news.

An emergency hardship contract is temporary in nature and means a WNBA team is below 10 available players because of injuries or illness. Henderson can be rostered by Los Angeles until the Sparks have 10 or more players available.

A five-game homestand on the schedule begins for the Sparks with a contest Friday against Minnesota. Henderson didn’t see any action in the 77-72 loss to the Lynx.

Henderson was a second-round pick, chosen 20th overall by the Indiana Fever in the 2022 WNBA Draft. She played in 36 games last season and averaged 5.3 points and shot 36.6 percent from three-point range.

The Fever waived Henderson on May 16 ahead of the start to the 2023 season.

At South Carolina, Henderson averaged 11.5 points a game during her senior season and was selected on the NCAA Final Four All-Tournament Team in helping the Gamecocks to the 2022 national championship.

Henderson had 26 points in the 2022 national championship win against Connecticut.
