Another former Gamecock assistant to work for Saban and Alabama, reports say
Nick Saban is not done adding former South Carolina coaches to his staff at Alabama.
Former Gamecocks tight ends coach Joe Cox is expected to be hired for the same job with the Crimson Tide, according to multiple reports Thursday night. ESPN was the first to report the move.
Cox will be the fourth former USC assistant to join the Crimson Tide staff this offseason, joining Travaris Robinson, Eric Wolford and Coleman Hutzler. Alabama officially announced those hires this week. All four worked under Will Muschamp at USC. Wolford also coached one season at USC under Steve Spurrier.
Cox coached tight ends at Charlotte last season but was the Gamecocks’ receivers coach in 2020.
Before that, Cox was an assistant coach at Colorado State under former Gamecock assistant Mike Bobo from 2015-19.
Cox was a standout high school football player under current Dutch Fork coach Tom Knotts at Independence High School in North Carolina. He went on to play college football at Georgia.
Muschamp, Bobo and former South Carolina offensive coordinator Bryan McClendon are all working under head coach Kirby Smart at Georgia.
