South Carolina’s Bryan Edwards is only a rookie, but he’ll start his first NFL game

When Bryan Edwards first joined the South Carolina Gamecocks football team, he broke into the starting lineup his first game and started every game he was healthy thereafter.

Now a Las Vegas Raider, Edwards will again start his first game on a new level.

The Raiders announced their depth chart for the season opener against the Carolina Panthers, and Edwards is a starter at wide receiver. He’ll be starting alongside fellow rookie Henry Ruggs III.

The Raiders lost top receiver Tyrell Williams to a shoulder injury for the season. They also traded third-round draft pick Lynn Bowden Jr., a receiver/running back.

Edwards is South Carolina’s all-time leading receiver, having caught 234 passes for 3,054 yards. His 22 touchdowns are second in program history. He posted more than 790 yards his final three seasons.

He was a four-star recruit from Conway High School and one of the first key gets for the Will Muschamp staff.

He was taken in the third round of the draft with the No. 81 overall pick.
