Bobby Bentley’s youngest son lands first college football offer
Brooks Bentley has yet to start a varsity game at River Bluff High School, but the son of South Carolina tight ends coach Bobby Bentley has a Division I offer.
The rising sophomore quarterback tweeted Wednesday he’d been offered by Eastern Kentucky, an Ohio Valley Conference program with a new head coach in Walt Wells. His three older brothers all played D-I football as quarterbacks.
Brooks Bentley mostly played JV last season, but was called up to varsity on occasion because of injury. He went 2 for 5 passing for 19 yards and had 26 yards and a touchdown on four carries.
At a listed 6-foot-2, 173 pounds, Brooks Bentley should be in line to compete for the QB job for the Gators. River Bluff has run an option scheme as of late, but Bentley appears to have some chops as a thrower, as his father played and coached the position.
His father was a longtime high school coach in the state, one of the most accomplished in South Carolina history. Bentley’s prolific Byrnes offenses led him to coaching in college at Presbyterian, later as an analyst at Auburn and finally as a South Carolina Gamecock assistant the past 4 1/2 years. Each Bentley son played QB in college with Chas Dodd starting for parts of several seasons at Rutgers, Shuler Bentley at Old Dominion and Murray State and Jake Bentley at South Carolina before transferring to Utah this offseason.
