Wolfpack coach Dave Doeren did not update Leary’s status this week or say if Chambers would start. But NCSU announced Saturday that a pectoral tear would require surgery and Leary would be out.

Halftime: Syracuse 10, NC State 3

The defense has doggedly kept the Wolfpack in it, coming up with a pair of interceptions late in the first half when the Orange seemed poised to add to their lead. Tanner Ingle picked off a Garrett Shrader pass in the end zone, then Aydan White intercepted a poorly thrown Shrader pass on the right sideline.

The Pack, with Jack Chambers and freshman MJ Morris at QB, had just 87 yards in total offense in the half -- Syracuse had 214. The Wolfpack was 1-for-7 on third down conversions but did convert a fourth-down play in getting a Christopher Dunn field goal in the first quarter and had more overall possession time than Syracuse -- 15:23 to 14:37.

Dunn FG: Syracuse 7, NC State 3

The Pack took advantage of a shanked Orange punt, starting at its 49, to drive into field-goal range, converting a fourth-down play on a Jordan Houston run. The Pack had first-and-goal at the 7 but the Orange held and Christopher Dunn got the Wolfpack on the board with a 20-yard field goal.

Gadsden TD catch: Syracuse 7, NC State 0

The Pack won the opening toss, deferred to the second half and had the Orange quickly move for a TD. After Collin Smith’s kickoff went out of bounds, Syracuse started at its 35 and scored in five plays as Sean Tucker had a 38-yard run. Garrett Shrader found Oronde Gadsden II open for a 12-yard score. in the left corner of the end zone.

Injury update

While the Leary injury news was the biggest, the Pack also will play without running back Demie Sumo-Karngbaye, its leading rusher. Jordan Houston will be the starter and Demarcus Jones the backup.

Nickel defensive back Tyler Baker-Williams, as expected, is returning to the lineup after being sidelined.
