UNC basketball’s Brady Manek ejected from game vs. Baylor, called for flagrant-2 foul

North Carolina forward Brady Manek was still upset after his flagrant-2 foul caused his ejection in the Tar Heels’ 93-86 overtime win against Baylor and declined an interview request.

Manek had to watch the remaining 10 minutes of regulation and all of overtime with a UNC staff member from the locker room. Manek received the disqualification with the Heels leading by 25 points after officials determined he elbowed Baylor forward Jeremy Sochan in the upper body.

“We really just wanted to do it for him,” Justin McKoy said.

Manek’s absence on the floor is partly how the Bears were able to mount their furious comeback. But he’ll be back on the floor when Carolina resumes NCAA Tournament play in the Sweet 16 on Friday in Philadelphia. There is no automatic suspension for a flagrant-2 foul.

Manek finished with 26 points on 8-for-13 shooting — including four 3-pointers. It marked the fifth time in the past six games that Manek scored at least 20 points.

“When we got back into the locker room, we all gave him a big hug just to be happy for him,” R.J. Davis said. “We just wanted to do for him and got it done.”
