North Carolina sophomore receiver Khafre Brown has entered the transfer portal after a sophomore season that has only produced one reception through seven games.

Brown was never able to find his rhythm in a season where the Tar Heels are seeking a second primary receiver to take pressure off of Josh Downs. Brown was beginning to be defined by his dropped passes more than making plays.

His lone reception this season was a 75-yard touchdown against Virginia, but he could have had more.

Brown was widely considered the fastest player on the team. The Tar Heels thought he would develop into the team’s deep threat this season after recording 15 receptions for 337 yards in his redshirt freshman season last year. He had two of Carolina’s top five longest plays from scrimmage last season with a 76-yard touchdown against the Cavaliers and a 65-yard catch against Wake Forest.

Brown is the younger brother of former UNC receiver Dyami Brown, who is currently playing for the Washington Football Team after being their third round pick in April’s NFL draft. Dyami Brown was the first player in program history to record consecutive 1,000-yard receiving seasons in 2019 and 2020.
