UNC extends its mask mandate for beginning of winter sports. Here’s the guidelines
North Carolina released safety guidelines for its winter sports through December, and masks will be required for spectators attending events at indoor venues.
Unlike last season, full capacity will be allowed at all its events, including men’s basketball games in the Dean E. Smith Center.
The policy is a continuation of what the school released in August for its fall sports. Vaccinations are still not a requirement in order to attend UNC sporting events, though the university reiterated that they are “strongly encouraged.”
At women’s basketball games in Carmichael Arena, the first two rows of seats behind the home and visiting benches will be blocked in order to serve as a buffer between fans and players.
As football plays out its remaining home schedule, including Miami on Saturday in Kenan Stadium, fans do not have to wear masks outdoors. But they are required in closed settings such as the bathrooms or elevators in the stadium.
UNC plans to re-evaluate its policy again in December, which could mean it changes in the new year as basketball, gymnastics, wrestling and swimming and diving play out their seasons.
