NC State snaps two-game slide with big win over Florida State

N.C. State got career games from quarterback Bailey Hockman and wide receiver Thayer Thomas, as the Wolfpack thrashed Florida State at home, 38-22.

The win snaps a two-game losing streak for N.C. State and the downward spiral continues for a once proud FSU program.

Hockman, the former Seminoles quarterback, had a field day against his former teammates, passing for a career-high 265 yards and three scores. He also rushed for a touchdown in the second quarter.

N.C. State (5-3, 5-3) jumped out to a 21-3 halftime lead behind three first-half TDs (two passing) from Hockman. Thomas, the graduate wideout from Wake Forest, caught five passes on the opening drive, a sign of what was to come as he finished with a career-high 11 catches for a career-high 135 yards and a pair of touchdowns. Bam Knight led the Wolfpack on the ground, with 94 yards on 17 carries.

Florida State freshman Chubba Purdy passed for 181 yards.

Chubba Purdy to Ontaria Wilson TD: NC State 35, FSU 16

Florida State won’t go down without a fight, as Chubba Purdy hit Ontaria Wilson wide open for a 69-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter. The scoring drive came after an impressive interception in the endzone by Noles’ defensive back Jarvis Brownlee, Jr.

NC State 35, FSU 9: End of third quarter

The Wolfpack outscored the Seminoles 14-6 in the third quarter and cruised into the fourth with a 35-9 advantage.

Thayer Thomas TD: NC State 35, FSU 9

N.C. State wide receiver Thayer Thomas caught his second TD of the day, this time from 24-yards, as the Wolfpack increased its lead to 26 with 2:09 remaining in the third quarter. Thomas has 11 catches for 135 yards.

Jashaun Corbin TD: NC State 26, FSU 9

Florida State got its first touchdown of the game when Jashaun Corbin scored on an 18-yard run on 4th and 1. The Seminoles were 3-3 on fourth down on the scoring drive.

Bam Knight TD run: NC State 28, FSU 3:

On N.C. State’s first drive of the third quarter, Bam Knight took it in from 18 yards away to put the Wolfpack up 28-3 with 10:34 showing on the clock. Knight has 41 yards on nine carries.

NC State 21, FSU 3: Halftime

For the first time since the Duke game on Oct. 17, the N.C. State defense forced a turnover. Defensive back Tyler Baker-Williams picked off Tate Rodemaker before the half and Bailey Hockman’s three touchdowns helped the Wolfpack take a 21-3 lead into the locker room at halftime. Hockman has 193 yards passing and two touchdowns and another TD on the ground.

Bailey Hockman scored on the ground from 10-yards out, giving him three touchdowns (2 passes) in the first half, as N.C. State jumps ahead 21-3 over FSU with 1:32 remaining in the first half.

Florida State kicker Parker Grothaus kicked a 37-yard field goal to get the Noles on the board with 8:11 remaining in the first half.

Bailey Hockman threw his second TD pass of the game, this time to Thayer Thomas, as N.C. State went up 14-0 with 13:18 remaining in the first half. Thomas has eight catches for 78 yards.

NC State 7, FSU 0: End of First quarter

N.C. State out gained Florida State 129-35 in the opening quarter and led the Noles, 7-0, after the first 15 minutes of play. N.C. State was 4-5 on third down in the first quarter of action. Bailey Hockman had 114 yards passing and the defense stopped FSU on a 4th and 1 to end the first quarter.

Bailey Hockman led N.C. State on a scoring drive to open the game, hitting Emeka Emezie for a 21-yard score. Hockman connected on all eight of his pass attempts for 93 yards.
