Crowning Achievements: A look back at the championships that defined the high school sports season
FLORENCE, S.C. – Another season of high school sports is in the books. And for several teams and athletes from the Pee Dee, it proved to be a memorable one.
The area saw 10 teams across seven different sports hoist state championship trophies and another 19 that captured individual titles along the way. There were first-time champs, back-to-back winners and a few more that added to their program's growing trophy cases.
Here is a look back at the crowning achievements from this past season:
"I was talking to our track coach and I said, 'Look, Qharma's got to be in this class if we want to get her to reach her maximum potential,'" Bruins coach Shawn Armstrong said of his strength class. "We were able to make it happen and she has taken off.
"…I've got a feeling she might repeat, kind of like Aniyah (Brunson) did whenever she was here at South Florence as well."
Thirteen other Pee Dee athletes also took home state titles in track and field:
* Marion's Darrion Baccus (2A Boys Discus)
* South Florence's Adrian Singletary (4A Boys High Jump)
* South Florence's Karmen Hanks (4A Girls 100-Meter Hurdles)
* Wilson Boys 4x100 Relay Team (MyQuan McWhite, Brian Wilson II, Jalen Boston, Jamel Bell)
* GSSM's Jaiden McKnight (1A Girls Triple Jump)
* GSSM's Neha Sodisetti (1A Girls Pole Vault)
* GSSM's Jayden Press (1A Boys Pole Vault)
* McBee's Naomi House (1A Girls Javelin)
* Trinity Collegiate's Garrison Copeland (SCISA D1 Boys High Jump)
* Williamsburg Academy's Caden Morris (SCISA D2 Boys High Jump)
