Adam Schefter Reveals New Details of Potential Eagles-Patriots AJ Brown Trade
It looks like Philadelphia Eagles fans are going to have to wait a little while longer to find out whether or not star wide receiver A.J. Brown gets traded.
The Pro Bowl pass-catcher has seemingly been on the trade block for months, and with Philadelphia's sky-high asking price (reportedly a first- and second-round picks) the New England Patriots have emerged as the last team standing.
A trade has not been agreed to yet, but ESPN's Adam Schefter reported that a deal will likely get done a month-and-a-half from now.
"The Eagles remain open to trading AJ Brown, the Patriots remain highly interested in acquiring the star receiver, and conversations are expected to resume shortly on or before June 1, likely culminating in a deal, per league sources," Schefter tweeted.
"As one source said about the Patriots’ pursuit of Brown, they’ll ‘definitely be engaging then.' A trade to New England is now considered likely."
If the Eagles trade Brown before June 1, they'll be on the hook for a dead-cap hit of $43.5 million. However, if they trade Brown after June 1, their dead-cap hit is a much more manageable $16.4 million.
Spotrac provided a breakdown of how much money Brown's new team will owe him for the duration of his contract:
