CCU’s head baseball coach goes off on University of Florida in viral video
A viral video shows Coastal Carolina University’s head baseball coach Kevin Schnall sharing his thoughts about University of Florida’s head coach Kevin O’Sullivan’s words towards staff members while at the NCAA Regionals over the weekend.
“He’s a national champion coach, who thinks he can come in here and try to bully people,” Schnall says in the video.
A clip posted by College Sports Only on Tik Tok of Schnall’s statement received almost 100,000 likes and over 1,000 comments within the first 24 hours it was posted.
This statement by Schnall on Sunday follows an incident when O’Sullivan allegedly spoke inappropriately to CCU and NCAA staff.
“I have to say this, and I’m not sure if I’m supposed to or not, but I believe in standing up to for what’s right, and what transpired this morning on our field, another coach disrespected our associate AD, who works as hard as anybody in our entire program, he disrespected our field crew, who are the salt of the earth, these guys would do anything for our program, it’s not okay,” Schnall said. “And this needs to be brought up. Absolutely disrespectful.”
In response to Schnall’s statement, O’Sullivan and the university’s athletic director Scott Stricklin posted statements on X.
“Prior to yesterday’s NCAA Tournament game against East Carolina, I let my emotions get the best of me and channeled that energy in a way I should not have,” O’Sullivan wrote. “I want to sincerely apologize for my actions and behavior to the entire NCAA Regional field of Coastal Carolina, East Carolina, and Fairfield, the NCAA — including site representatives Rick French and Mark Scaif — as well as all of Gator Nation.”
Chief Communications Officer for CCU Athletics Ryan Koslen said they did not have any further comment about the exchange when reached by phone on Tuesday.
CCU baseball will square off against Auburn University for a best-of-three series at Plainsman Park starting on Friday evening, according to a release from CCU Athletics. The winner of that series will head to the Men’s College World Series.
