Grand Strand viewer’s guide for the sports week ahead (Dec. 19-Dec. 25, 2016)
▪ The CresCom Bank Holiday Invitational high school girls basketball tournament continues through Thursday at the Myrtle Beach Convention Center, with the championship game concluding the tournament with a 2:15 p.m. tip.
▪ The Shootout By The Sea high school girls and boys basketball tournaments take place Monday through Wednesday at North Myrtle Beach High.
▪ The Panther Classic boys basketball tournament runs Tuesday through Thursday at Carolina Forest High.
▪ The Coastal Carolina men’s basketball team has one more game left in the calendar year as it hosts Wofford on Monday at 7 p.m.
▪ The CCU women’s basketball team finishes the 2016 portion of its slate by playing at College of Charleston at 4 p.m. Tuesday.
▪ The Clemson men’s basketball team travels to rival South Carolina for a 9 p.m. game Wednesday (ESPNU).
▪ The Carolina Panthers play their second-to-last game of the season as they host the Atlanta Falcons at 1 p.m. Saturday for a Christmas Eve game (Fox).
▪ There are eight college football bowl games this week. The Miami Beach Bowl (Tulsa vs. Central Michigan) is at 2:30 p.m. Monday, the Boca Raton Bowl (Memphis vs. Western Kentucky) is at 7 p.m. Tuesday, the Poinsettia Bowl (BYU vs. Wyoming) is at 8 p.m. Wednesday, the Famous Idaho Potato Bowl (Idaho vs. Colorado State) is at 7 p.m. Thursday, the Bahamas Bowl (Eastern Michigan vs. Old Dominion, 1 p.m.), Armed Forces Bowl (Navy vs. Louisiana Tech, 4:30 p.m.) and Dollar General Bowl (Ohio vs. Troy, 8 p.m.) are being played Friday, and the Hawaii Bowl (Middle Tennessee vs. Hawaii) is at 8 p.m. Saturday. All are being televised by ESPN.
▪ The NBA will hold its annual Christmas Day showcase Sunday, with five games on tap: Boston at New York (noon, ESPN), Golden State at Cleveland (2:30 p.m., ABC), Chicago at San Antonio (5 p.m., ABC), Minnesota at Oklahoma City (8 p.m., ESPN) and L.A. Clippers at L.A. Lakers (10:30 p.m., ESPN).
