Grand Strand viewer’s guide for the sports week ahead (Nov. 28-Dec. 4, 2016)
▪ The Coastal Carolina men’s basketball team is back in Conway for three games this week as it hosts Chattanooga (7 p.m. Tuesday), Methodist (8:30 p.m. Wednesday) and UNC Asheville (2 p.m. Saturday).
▪ The CCU women’s basketball team is also home this week, hosting Catawba (6 p.m. Wednesday) and Pfeiffer (7 p.m. Friday).
▪ The Clemson football team takes on Virginia Tech in the ACC Championship Game on Saturday in Orlando, Fla. (8 p.m., ABC).
▪ Several other conference championship games will be played this week: MAC (Western Michigan vs. Ohio, 7 p.m. Friday, ESPN2); Pac-12 (Washington vs. Colorado, 8 p.m. Friday, Fox); American (Navy vs. Temple, noon Saturday, ABC); Conference USA (Louisiana Tech vs. Western Kentucky, noon Saturday, ESPN); SEC (Alabama vs. Florida, 4 p.m. Saturday, CBS); SWAC (Alcorn State vs. Grambling State, 4 p.m. Saturday, ESPNU); Big Ten (Penn State vs. Wisconsin, 7 p.m. Saturday, Fox); and Mountain West (San Diego State vs. Wyoming, 7:45 p.m. Saturday, ESPN).
▪ Tiger Woods makes his long-awaited return to the PGA Tour this week for the Hero World Challenge (Thursday-Sunday).
▪ The Clemson men’s basketball team has two home games this week as it takes on Nebraska in the ACC/Big Ten Challenge on Wednesday (9 p.m., ESPNU) and Coppin State (2 p.m. Sunday).
▪ The South Carolina men’s basketball team has a pair of home games this week as part of the Brooklyn Hoops Holiday Invitational against Vermont (6:30 p.m. Thursday, SEC Network) and Florida International (2 p.m. Sunday, SEC Network).
▪ Three area high school football teams will be playing in their respective classifications’ Lower State semifinals, with Carvers Bay hosting Barnwell (2A), Conway at Fort Dorchester (5A) and North Myrtle Beach at Chapin (4A). All games are scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Friday.
▪ With preseason tournament games in the books, high school basketball begins its regular season Monday.
The Carolina Panthers travel to Seattle to take on the Seahawks in a high-stakes NFC contest (8:30 p.m. Sunday, NBC).
