Grand Strand viewer’s guide for the sports week ahead (Nov. 14-Nov. 20, 2016)
▪ The Coastal Carolina football team will have a rare Thursday contest as it hosts former Big South archrival Liberty at 7 p.m.
▪ The CCU men’s soccer team will begin NCAA tournament play Thursday. The Chants will learn their opponent during Monday’s 1 p.m. NCAA Selection Show. Should CCU win in the first round, it will play a second-round match Sunday.
▪ The Coastal volleyball team debuts in the Sun Belt tournament as the No. 2 seed, beginning with a quarterfinal match against seventh-seeded Georgia Southern at 3:30 p.m. Friday in Arlington, Texas. The championship match is scheduled for 2 p.m. Sunday.
▪ The CCU men’s basketball team holds its home opener against College of Charleston at 7 p.m. Monday before resuming play in the MGM Grand Main Event with contests against Coppin State (7 p.m. Wednesday at home) and at BYU (TBD Saturday).
▪ Coastal Carolina’s women’s basketball team will hold its home opener against North Carolina Central at 7 p.m. Tuesday and then play at Marshall at 1 p.m. Saturday.
▪ The Clemson football team will play at Wake Forest at 7 p.m. Saturday (TV TBA).
▪ The South Carolina football team hosts Western Carolina at 4 p.m. Saturday.
▪ The Clemson men’s basketball team plays at Davidson Thursday (11 a.m.).
▪ The USC men’s basketball team hosts Monmouth Tuesday (6:30 p.m.) and South Carolina State on Friday (6:30 p.m.).
▪ Eight area high school football teams will play in first-round playoff contests this week. Carvers Bay, Conway and North Myrtle Beach will be at home, while Carolina Forest, Myrtle Beach, Georgetown, Loris and Green Sea Floyds will be on the road.
▪ NASCAR’s Chase for the Sprint Cup is down to its final four, with Joey Logano, Kyle Busch, Carl Edwards and Jimmie Johnson vying for the title in the season-finale Ford Ecoboost 400 at Homestead-Miami Speedway (2:30 p.m. Sunday).
▪ The Carolina Panthers host the New Orleans Saints on Thursday Night Football (8:25 p.m., NFL Network).
▪ The PGA Tour heads to Sea Island Georgia for The RSM Classic from Thursday through Sunday.
