Published on Nov. 18, 2010, on my former blog after an NBC interview with Kanye West brought this issue back up.

As I said at the time, it was a horrible, cheap shot Kanye West took at President George W. Bush in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, when he called the president a racist. There was much -- much -- to be desired about how we handled that crisis (and many others), but it takes it to a whole other level to say the less-than-perfect response was because Bush didn't like black people. It's one of those statements that shuts down conversations more than any other.
