I am big on making space for people to redeem themselves, so much so that I get criticized from a variety of people who want me to be tougher.
But I must admit, George Zimmerman tests my philosophy more than just about anyone else.
Zimmerman stalked an unarmed 17-year-old kid.
He spied him and followed him and chased him down even though the kid was just walking home from a convenience store, minding his own business until a strange, wannabe cop suspected he was a criminal.
Zimmerman is the one who had the gun. Zimmerman is the one who had the criminal background, including charges of attacking a police officer and domestic violence.
Since his acquittal, he has been involved in numerous other incidents.
He says, “as a Christian,” he won’t second-guess why this happened.
He was not punished for killing Trayvon Martin, and the Department of Justice declined to bring charges against him, but, according to Zimmerman, he is the victim in all of this.
But I’ll stop there for now.
