Blog | Romney vs. Holyfield. Myrtle Beach Mayor John Rhodes vs. Bone Crusher Smith?
Mitt Romney, the 2012 Republican nominee for president, former governor and former Olympics savior, is scheduled to step into the ring with Evander Holyfield, a man who held the heavyweight championship belt multiple times and crushed Mike Tyson.
Who will you lay odds against?
OK, it’s for a good cause, charity:
I've learned the real reason why Mitt Romney chose not to run for president for a third time in 2016.
He's taking up boxing.
In fact, Romney is slated to fight former heavyweight boxing champion Evander Holyfield in the marquee event during a several-bout evening at the Rail Event Center near the Union Pacific Depot in Salt Lake City on May 15.
"It will either be a very short fight, or I will be knocked unconscious," Romney quipped in an interview recently. "It won't be much of a fight. We'll both suit up and get in the ring and spar around a little bit."
With that in mind, what other politician would you love to see in boxing shorts inside the square circle, and against whom?
Maybe the day after our next president is sworn in, the Secret Service will be OK with Barack Obama stepping into the ring with Floyd Mayweather?
Do you think Hillary Clinton can handle Ronda Rousey?
Locally, maybe Mayor John Rhodes would be willing to challenge Grand Strand resident Bone Crusher Smith, who went 12 full rounds with Tyson, while Tyson was still in his prime and knocking out just about every opponent? (For liability purposes, maybe City Councilman Wayne Gray should step in for Rhodes.)
If a Rhodes victory against Smith would mean an immediate end to the annual Atlantic Beach Memorial Day Bikefest, would you endorse the fight?
Who are you willing to fight for a worthy charity?
