We are financing our own misery by paying tourism tax

Think about it. We are all paying the extra one percent sales tax when we buy anything in Myrtle Beach. Everyone's money goes into funding tourism.

That brings more people and expenses to our area and gives us more traffic on U.S. 501. We then need more police and fire stations and more taxes.

When you are sitting at any traffic light or waiting in line for a seat in a restaurant, you can remember that we paid for the aggravation, then you should wonder what the advantages are.

Really, what does spending that extra money do for us?
