Local sponsors made all-important kids’ camp possible

Camp Air Waves & Seven Seas – Thank you Sponsors!

Grand Strand Health recently completed our 18th annual four-day camp for kids who have asthma or diabetes. Seventeen campers and five junior counselors enjoyed meeting new friends, creating movie-themed crafts, taking field trips and learning how to manage their conditions. Our camp goal is to provide a safe and fun camp experience for children who may not attend a regular camp due to their asthma or diabetes.

The campers learned how to manage their disease from counselors with their peers, all while having fun. Our camp would not be possible without the contributions of community partners who helped provide our campers with a wonderful experience. Partners included: Johnny Rockets, Captain Hook’s Adventure Golf, Myrtle Beach Fire Department, Terry & Don’s Gymnastics; and The Home Depot.

We send many thanks to Johnny Rockets, McDonalds on 22 nd Avenue, Chick-fil- A in Coastal Grand Mall and Moe’s Southwest Grill for their meal donations. Our campers were able to learn about choices when eating out at these restaurants with their contributions. We also appreciate the staffs from Grand Strand Medical Center and Coastal Carolina Allergy & Asthma Associates who plan and staff the camp.

Thanks also to Sunway Bus and their excellent drivers who kept our staff and campers safe as they traveled to field trips. The campers had a great week filled with activities while learning how to manage their conditions in a variety of situations. Our community is fortunate to have caring businesses that support children and their health.
