Allowing the sell of assault weapons makes no sense

Assault weapons have one purpose and one purpose only - to kill as many people as possible in as short a time as possible. The United States is the only country in Western Europe or North America where a citizen can purchase such a weapon, and an overwhelming percentage of Americans support a ban on their sale (we are not allowed to purchase things like hand grenades, bazookas or mortars). Also, the banning of the sale of assault weapons does not effect the Second Amendment rights of citizens to purchase handguns or most types of rifles.

There is one reason, and one reason only, why basic sanity as relates to certain aspects of gun control does not prevail in our country - and that reason is that the National Rifle Association funds the campaign war chests of Republican candidates in Congress and essentially controls their votes.

Until we demand change (Are there any Republicans left in Congress who think for themselves and vote independently on issues?) and stop voting for legislators who do not support banning the sale of assault weapons, nothing is going to change.

We are continually told by the gun lobby that “guns don't kill people, people kill people.” Well, I'm here to tell you that assault rifles do kill people, and it is the only thing they do.

How can a responsible human being, with even an ounce of common sense, not be against their sale?
