Poets’ work resonates long after WWI

Thank you for the July 4 article in The Sun News, recording the loss of the poet, Alan Seeger, during World War I.

I have never read Seeger's poetry but the story reminded me of another American poet who also lost his life fighting with the U.S. Forces in World War I. Joyce Kilmer's poem “Trees” may be familiar to most seniors. Kilmer died July 30, 1918 near Seringes-et-Nesles, France.

He was 31.
