Golfing woes bring golfing innovation
When we had more than 100 golf courses, we were recognized as the “Golf Capital of the World,” a year-round, unparalleled, cheap golfing mecca for the “blue collar six-pack-Joe,” a six- night, getaway destination, complete with a choice of playing a unique “cluster” course concept. That is, playing on several courses located near each other and the hotel accommodations.
Unfortunately, our long exuberant golf market boom has declined, as we currently witness a consistent drumbeat of our excessive number of course closings, caused primarily by course supply and player demand. This has resulted in green fee wars and revenue losses. Our current course closings have outnumbered openings.
On one positive side, we will soon witness a game time “crunchers” delight with more executive short and fun style courses that can be played in three hours or less. This style of play can currently be enjoyed on at least one area course.
