Founding Fathers made big mistake with Second Amendment
The Founding Fathers may have meant well by creating the Second Amendment to the U.S. Constitution and ratifying it on Dec. 15, 1791. However, it turns out that they did irreparable harm to our nation.
The United States has the highest gun ownership rate in the world and the highest per capita rate of firearm-related murders of all developed countries. That is nothing to be proud of!
The National Rifle Association (NRA), it seems, has so much power over politicians that even when 90 percent of Americans, including a majority of NRA members, wanted universal background checks to be adopted following the Newtown killings of 2012. But no federal action ensued. There in not much reason to expect the current Congress to enact anything related to gun ownership. So there is not much the average person can do to protect themselves.
Just use common sense. Don’t jog alone, especially in the twilight hours. Be aware of your surroundings in theaters, stadiums, churches and any venue where many people congregate.
And pray that some day there will be a Congress in control that uses common sense and abides by the will of the majority of the people.
