Please tell me why most local politicians never served in military?

I was quite taken back by the 32 individuals running for office that were mentioned in the June 12 Sunday edition of The Sun News. There were only three who had served in the military. In all, none had mentioned anything about our veterans or if they supported our fine men and women now or in the past - even though South Carolina is filled with these fine individuals.

Mostly, the article was geared towards law enforcement and education. Although those are very important topics, so are our veterans. Many are homeless and need assistance. How about some help for the ones who helped our great nation?

I am a veteran and am very lucky to have some assistance through the U.S. Army and Department of Veterans Affairs.

Most of the candidates were old enough to serve our fine country in the military. I am curious why they did not serve and would appreciate some answers.
