Granddaughter of a Myrtle Beach veteran salutes the troops
I made a poem honoring the people who served our country in war titled, “My Heroes.”
Thank you, my heroes, the people whom served in war, the people who sacrificed their life for yours. The soldiers standing, saluting, who sang out, Let Freedom Ring! That is the song we should all sing.
You saved us, and let us be named free, for the home of the brave stands tall as a tree, they are tough, and they’ve even been through the rough, but they still stand tall, and protect us as the strongest wall.
Thank you for being there for every one of us, standing strong, breathing in the dust. Being kind, even to the ones you don’t know. You help this country grow.
You say all of us are in a bind. That we are intertwined. It is true, for the red, white, and blue. My country, tis of thee, is the free.
There have been many generations, serving us across the nations. For the ones who died, there are many whom cried, from the pain of their loss. In trending terminology, you are a boss.
You are the best, with your bulletproof vest. That vest, is better than the rest. The uniform you wear, as you breathe in the bulleted air. Hear this plea, as you’re fighting over the sea.
You will never be forgot, with your scars of war, and all the courage that you got. We will never forget you, and the jets that flew. With the red rockets glare, and the bombs bursting in air, don’t forget, we care.
All the wars, you had to endure, we are sure, we will be protected, by the real hero detected. With the flag, red, white, and blue within your view, it will protect you.
Remember that retched day, where we watched our heroes lay. It will all be okay, all we need to do is pray.
Your oath to our country is true.
The writer is the 11-year-old granddaughter of military veteran Robert McCray who lives in Pawleys Island.
