Parking meters at beach access points in Myrtle Beach horrible idea

My wife and I have lived in Carolina Forest for 10 and a half years. We have seen a lot of changes in Horry County, as well as the city of Myrtle Beach, mostly for the better, but also for the worse (traffic, higher sales taxes, etc.).

We bought a home in this area mainly for the purpose of going to the beach. I am sure a very large portion of the population of Carolina Forest did the same thing.

We are both livid over the proposed meters to be installed at the beach access points along Ocean Boulevard in Myrtle Beach. We are both senior citizens and are on a fixed income. The proposed $4 an hour or $20 a day is an outrageous amount of money.

I am sure there are many people that feel the same way, especially citizens who live in the unincorporated areas of Myrtle Beach. We have frequented the cities shops, restaurants and attractions many times over the years and spent a lot of money, like many other residents. Enough is enough with all of these fees and taxes that Myrtle Beach overlays on transactions in the city.

This proposal should not pass; let things be as they are. As a last resort, unincorporated residents should be allowed to purchase the decal permits that the residents of the city are afforded. We feel the later should be addressed by the Horry County Council, as well as Gov. Nikki Haley. The county residents should have the same opportunity of Myrtle Beach residents.

We beg to ask the question: Is the proposed parking meter idea nothing more than a way of bilking the locals again for the sole benefit of adding to the coffers of the city of Myrtle Beach?

The writers live in Myrtle Beach.
