Writer opposes Mabry in Surfside Beach election
All this election talk about making Surfside Beach a business-friendly town is ridiculous. I want to tell you about my experience with Councilwoman Mary Mabry. She sits in the council meetings and talks about how much she's done to help businesses. She hasn’t done anything for me and she came to my shop with the zoning director to tell me what to do about my signs after a bunch of harrassment and complaints from me.
My problem isn’t that she came to my shop, even though I don't think she should, it's that she lied about it. She told me to my face that she never stepped foot in my shop and did a deal with me with the director of zoning. Not only was she on my cameras, but she told one of the shop owners down from me that she was coming to see me.
I have also been told by sources that her husband who used to be a councilman is also behind my aggravation and harassment. She is in no way business friendly. All she's done for me is cause me trouble and cost me money. As a business owner, I don't want her re-elected because she meddles where she doesn't belong.
I also believe she crossed the line on town and state ethics. If you have a right to vote in the town of Surfside, don't fall for her lies and promises. In my eyes and others she is not good for the future of this town. They have been trying to run me out of the town because I have a motorcycle shop, just like they did with Jammin’ Leather and other shops.
I have messages from other business people who got run off or couldn’t afford the rent for all their rules and regulations they make up as they go. I apologize, but I can’t sit here and watch this happen.
