Bernie and Hillary should team up

Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt, and Democratic presidential front-runner Hillary Clinton spar during a Democratic presidential primary debate hosted by MSNBC at the University of New Hampshire in Durham, N.H., on Feb. 4, 2016. The pair will debate Wednesday night at Miami-Dade College in Miami. Thirty-six-plus hours of televised debates in the 2016 presidential campaign have brought us Marco Rubio’s robotic moment, Donald Trump’s jaw-dropping sexual innuendo, Sanders’ dismissal of Clinton’s “damn emails” and Clinton’s denunciation of Sanders for an “artful smear.” Oh, and we’ve heard about issues, too.

To my Democrat-leaning friends:

Now, I am more of a “Bernie fan,” but just imagine for a minute: you are watching a Democratic debate, and while the two candidates are introducing themselves, suddenly they shake hands and announce, “Guess what, we are now running mates! Any questions?”

Can you imagine how doomed the Republicans would then be? Hillary would probably take the lead if she were winning in the primaries, but wouldn’t Bernie fans be way more likely to vote for her, if he would be there to influence her presidency and ideas? Bernie’s age would be less of an issue, but he could lend her campaign some much-needed genuineness.

The whole party would be united more than ever in my lifetime.
