Re Eva Long's letter Sunday on Cruz:

This letter opened my eyes and now I see. I see she needs to learn more about her God. The biblical principle of love your neighbor is nowhere to be found in conservatism or Ted Cruz. Unless of course you are an entitled elitist. She has no more in common with Ted Cruz than she has with me.

Does she think Jesus looks at the undocumented alien, the uninsured or working poor and thinks you have no rights here? Or says, you are not welcome here? When Ted Cruz is called to account for himself, I have a feeling he will ask that question: Lord, when did I see you poor or an immigrant or as a person deprived of a living wage?

Conservatives believe it is their right to be excused from the requirement of virtue and common decency as they close their eyes to the suffering of those not like them. Ms. Long is right to trust in God's values as long as she doesn't confuse them with those of a demagogue.
