Horry County missed its chance for Tournament Boulevard fix
A recent article in the paper on the traffic congestion on Tournament Boulevard stated a need to do something. It went on to say that the Department of Transportation said there is a problem and there needs to be a light and turn lanes at a cost of $1.5 million.
Tournament Boulevard where the new Wal-Mart is located has been widened and repaved to accommodate the entrances into Wal-Mart. Why on earth did the DOT and Horry County not go ahead and make the necessary road improvements when this construction was under way? In negotiating the Wal-Mart deal, the county and DOT could have asked for money for the improvement since there will be a lot more traffic on these roads.
Did someone drop the ball on this deal? Instead of making the improvement to the roads when they were under construction, the residents in the area will have to wait who knows how long and endure many bumper-to-bumper traffic nightmares.
