Actions of Myrtle Beach discouraging tourists from a tourist town
Myrtle Beach is not Hilton Head and should not try to be. Recently on the news I saw two articles about Myrtle Beach City Council's efforts to fortify us against visitors.
First, the council, probably reacting to one or a few homeowners’ complaints, is considering eliminating parking on one side of Ocean Boulevard and putting meters on the other side to encourage tourists to figure out somewhere else to go.
Then they have a complaint about stores having inappropriate clothing that maybe one or two people reacted to, so let's tell all the stores to take all of the merchandise off the shelves that tourists are buying. That, along with the tent ban, says, “hey, tourists we don't want you.” We would rather plan year round on how to control and spend money on the bikefest weeks.
The more we decrease tourism and leave a revenue gap, the more property owners will pay in taxes. Please consider us when considering your new plans or hopefully voters will remember you.
